Lee County a Hub for Economic Development
In the July issue of Business North Carolina Magazine, the state’s 25 biggest job-creating projects were ranked, with the list including four companies announcing expansions in Lee County.
The India-based Kalyani Group was ranked 10th, which through subsidiary Bharat Forge, an Indian auto parts manufacturer, announced in September 2019 that it would bring 460 jobs and $170.3 million in tax base investment to Lee County.
Ranked 17th, Pfizer announced in August 2019 that it was expanding its gene therapy operation by 300 employees, investing a $500 million. At number 22 on the list, Audentes revealed in February an economic development deal known as “Project Jupiter” would bring 209 new jobs to Sanford’s Central Carolina Enterprise Park, investing $109 million in the local tax base.
And ranked 25th was California-based Through6 for announcing in May that it was bringing 160 jobs and $2 million in tax base investment to Lee County. The company’s new manufacturing site will provide cut, sewing, and printing services for its apparel brands.
